http://www.shropshirebirds.com/ Up to date information of birds located in the county of Shropshire and also of the various sites including Venus Pool Reserve (overseen by Shropshire Ornithological Society- No Permit required

http://www.birds.cornell.edu/ Visiting the USA?  This is a good place to start your research before departure.  We use their e-bird section to record our species seen when visiting.  This fine Northern Cardinal (right) was taken in Easter 2006 at Roebling New Jersey.  See our ‘Gallery’ for more North American bird pictures

http://www.birdguides.com Although you need to subscribe to this site, I recommend it for up to the minute information about bird sightings in the UK.

http://www.westmidlandbirdclub.com/ Even non-members can get a great deal of information about birding and good places to bird watch from this club site. Remember however that the reserves operated by WMBC require permits for visits.  We often combine visits to the NEC with a walk around the Ladywalk Reserve at Hams Hall or a short drive north will bring you to Kingsbury Water Park.

http://champagne-ardenne.lpo.fr/grus-grus/index.htm This site was the one that allerted me to wintering Common Crane in France.  We found over 600 Cranes (right) at Lac de Puydarrieux, not far from Tarbes in SW France, in February 2007.  The reserve warden is friendly and informative and she speaks good English. Also at this site was a Juv White-tailed Eagle on its second winter there. In August at the same site was Osprey and Black Tern.

http://biggonline.co.uk/ During the breeding season, this website shows what can be achieved with a nest cam. This is the site that first influenced me to explore a web cam based site.

http://www.guidedbirdwatching.com Find out about the local guides if you are holidaying in a new county or country

http://www.worcesterbirding.co.uk/index.html An excellent site for the Worcestershire area with links to maps and access information. If only every county had a site as good as this! Sadly, from 1st June 2008 this site will be by subscription only . . . . . . a victim of it’s own success?

The British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) have an excellent website at: http://www.bto.org/index.htm
The site gives you access to information regarding their on going surveys such as Garden Bird Watch or the Bird Atlas 2007 - 11. If you want to get involved, even if it is only for 10 minutes each week logging the birds that visit your garden, this is the way YOU can add to the science of ornithology.
